Dunajec Castle in Niedzica, under the care of the Association of Art Historians since the 1950s, is a place that has served as a museum since 1963, opening a fascinating journey into the past for tourists. The exhibition, which includes the Castle and the Carriage House (available on a single ticket), is open all year round. In addition, during the high season (from May 1st to September 30th), tourists can also visit the historic wooden Granary, which is available on separate tickets.
Dunajec Castle is also a place that offers accommodation options, which makes a stay in this remarkable place even more memorable. Guests can choose to stay in the Castle, the historic Customs House or the Henhouse, and each of these options allows you to feel the unique atmosphere of centuries gone by.
Customs House is the former headquarters of the border guard and customs service, and was erected on the Polish-Czechoslovak border in 1924. It is a wooden building, the architecture of which refers to the so-called manor style, popular in Poland in the 1920s. The Customs House is situated in a vast park on the grounds of a former manor farm, about 200 meters from the castle.
In the picturesque garden there is located the brick Henhouse - a charming building set on an elongated rectangular plan, covered with a gabled, shingled roof, with an entrance porch on the west side. After World War II, when it ceased to serve an economic function, it was used as a modest summer house. Among others, Tadeusz Kantor lived here. Currently, two guest rooms, called perches, are located there.
